The Parisian native Mittenaere, 24 years of age, is studying a degree in dental surgery, and plans to use her platform as the winner of the 65th annual competition to advocate for oral hygiene

In the most awaited Question and Answer portion, Miss France, Mittenaera received a tough and timely question regarding immigration, about whether or not countries have an obligation to accept refugees. Her answer was “In France, we have the most globalization that we can, we want to have the biggest exchange of people that we can.”, adding “Maybe someday that will change, but now we have open borders. Having open borders allows us to travel more to the world and to find out more about what’s out there in the world.”.

Miss Haiti, Pelissier and Miss Colombia, Tovar also answered tough questions thrown at them.

One of the highlights of this year’s Miss Universe is that it has the same host as last year, Steve Harvey, who erroneously announced the winner last year as Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez, but later apologized and cleared that it was Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach who won. He ended the show by announcing “I’m Steve Harvey and I got it right!”.
